Ischia Global Festival, John MacLean's "Tornado" named best film

Tornado by John MacLean (UK) was named Best Film of the 23rd Ischia Global Film & Music Festival . The action drama starring Tim Roth and Jack Lowden , according to the citation, blends revenge and samurai in the return to film of an undisputed talent of European cinema. A Special Mention for a First Feature Film went to Even by Giulio Ancora (Italy), the story of a teenager who lives her life with carefree rebelliousness until a traumatic event turns her life upside down. This debut film brings us back to the burning reality of gender-based violence perpetuated against women. Best Documentary was 'Oroboro' by Pablo Lobato (Brazil). Through a sensitive and poetic narrative about the power of art in educating young students, the documentary captures the intimacy of the discoveries, pains, and joys experienced in youth. It also captures the stark contrasts between rural and urban areas that characterize Brazil.
Best Short Film (ex aequo): Aria by Federica Belletti ( USA/Italy), the story of a young woman experiencing hours of anguish, pain, and loneliness after a sexual encounter, played by Pauline Chalamet. Fellini by Hleb Papou (Italy) is "A powerfully expressive portrait of two young people growing up in the outskirts of Milan who are turned away by the bouncers of one of the city's most exclusive clubs, thus losing themselves in an urban odyssey of frustration and a thirst for revenge." Organized by the Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia, the festival, produced by Pascal Vicedomini, is supported by the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual of the MiC and the Campania Region, with the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and the participation of ENIT, along with Givova, Rainbow, and Caremar.
